What is the history and popularity of the app?

BambooHR was founded in July of 2008 by Ryan Sanders and Ben Peterson. Based out of Provo, Utah, the company currently employs around 15 individuals, including President Ryan Sanders and CEO Ben Peterson. The application was intended to provide an SaaS based human resources system for small to medium size businesses. BambooHR continues to be updated to offer more options to users.

What are the differences to other apps?

BambooHR helps small to medium businesses handle their HR tasks. The application is economically priced and can reduce the number of people needed to manage human resources tasks (depending on the number of employees of course). Small businesses may be able to eliminate the need for an HR person all together by implementing BambooHR. The application is web based so users can centralize all their HR data into one accessible location.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The BambooHR website has a delicately pleasant design that retains a sense of professionalism. The color scheme features shades of green against a white background. The contrast is very easy on the eyes and compliments the smooth BambooHR logo, which features narrow bamboo leaves growing out of the ‘b’. The application is equally as well organized and favors the clean design of the website.

How does the registration process work?

New users sign up for a BambooHR account by clicking the small blue “Try it free!” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. A similar green button can also be found near the center, right hand side of the homepage. The registration form requires a first and last name, company name, job title, phone number, and work email address. After filling it out, a message is shown that someone from BambooHR will contact you soon to discuss the membership.

What does it cost to use the application?

BambooHR only offers customized prices. You can contact them and they will get back to you to determine your needs and get you a quote. Their pricing starts at $99 and goes up based on employee count.

Who would you recommend the application to?

BambooHR is intended for small to medium size businesses. The application can handle numerous human resources tasks and provides users with a self-serve option for their employees. The four membership plans are also varied so businesses only pay for what they really need.

  • Set up an employee self-service website
  • Create customized reports based on your company needs
  • Manage employee files in one, centralized location
  • Add custom fields to employee files
  • Manage time off requests through BambooHR
